Bertha Says… Buh-Bye

By August 4, 2014February 3rd, 2020No Comments

Bertha finally intensified into a hurricane, but that status is likely short-lived. Starting tomorrow, cool waters and high wind shear will begin to weaken the system,  deteriorating Bertha into a powerful extratropical storm by Wednesday. The storm will continue north, midway between the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda without any threat to major land areas. Southeast Newfoundland may feel tropical storm force wind gusts and heavy rains from the remnants of the system on Thursday.

Meanwhile, on the OTHER side…. Hurricane Iselle is spinning in the Pacific reaching┬ácategory 4 status today, but will ┬álikely weaken by the time it nears the Hawaiian Islands Thursday night. Good news for folks from the Aloha State- hurricanes coming from the east typically dissipate before reaching the Islands. Iselle may bring some heavy rains, but impacts should be localized and minor.
