Danny was named early this morning roughly 1500 miles from the Windward Islands. He is moving westward at around 12 mph and has top sustained winds around 40 mph. Low wind shear and warm waters will provide favorable conditions for intensification in the coming days and the NHC is predicting Danny to reach hurricane status by tomorrow morning and category 2 status by the weekend.
Most of the forecast models keep Danny at a moderate pace on a west-northwest course until the weekend when it will encounter a ridge to the north that should speed the system along a bit quicker. While Danny still has quite a journey ahead before he reaches any land areas, we will all be watching him closely in the coming days!
