Tropical storm Erika is plugging along and moving over Hispaniola right about now. If the storm can enter the Bahamas tomorrow somewhat unscathed then it will encounter warm waters and low shear which should allow for strengthening. At this point the models seem to be in agreement- Florida will bear the impact of Erika with heavy flooding rains expected throughout the state from Sunday through Tuesday. However, the intensity at the time of landfall is still up for debate.
In addition to the threat posed by Erika, we have hurricane Ignacio in the Pacific heading towards the Hawaiian Islands. Ignacio is steadily intensifying and one of the more accurate forecast models brings the storm within 100 miles of Hawaii on Tuesday.
